How will we interact with household appliances in future? That was the question we asked our interns to think about as part of their final assignment – and they came up with an answer in the form of the iCoffee study.

The iCoffee machine is part of the smart home system – a coffee maker that wakes up at the same time you do. The product remains discreetly in the background and provides space for interaction by projecting the interface onto the countertop. iCoffee offers you a big selection of hot beverages, and you can change your coffee whenever you like to suit how you happen to be feeling. The choice of coffee beans, plus info about their origin, flavour and the right grind size, are clearly arranged and presented in large-scale. Once you’ve made your choice, the coffee is prepared to your individual preferences – while you look at the latest news and posts, check the weather, take a look at your diary or just play your favourite music.
